Future of the iPod

I was reading various peoples thoughts about what Apple will do next with the iPod and I had an idea.

What if you could carry your Mac everywhere, on your iPod?

Here is the basic idea. I have played with Damn Small Linux and its kind of fun and boots from a USB stick, its just cool. In theory I would switch over to just using a USB stick and have a portable computer that I just have to plug in to whatever machine I am near. This allows me to keep all my personal settings and software (I hate it when I have to download firefox when I use someone else’s computer).

Now after thinking about this for a little while I figured wouldn't it be cool if I could use my MP3 player for this. That way I could even have my music library no matter where I was. So I would have everything I need, right there, I could always have MY computer environment no matter where I was. I thought it was somewhat cool.

However, here is the cool part. What if Apple made a Laptop designed around the thought of storing most of your files on an iPod? Now your laptop does not have a hard drive in it, you could replace the hard drive with four gigs of flash memory, which should be enough space to make your system useable without the hard drive.

I think this might allow for a super sexy laptop that might even be more power efficient.
